Building Permits, Inspections and Code Enforcement
The Planning and Developmentís Office of Building Permits and Inspections is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the Cityís adopted construction codes. The Office of Building Permits and Inspections processes multiple types of construction permit applications, conducts plans reviews of construction plans and schedules and performs subsequent field inspections to verify compliance with the City and State building safety standards. The process of building permits and inspections provides the citizens of Conway with a safe built environment in their homes, schools, churches, shops and places of work and business. The City of Conway Office of Building Permits and Inspections is committed to protecting public safety, property values and the character of Conway.

Conway Planning Department
The City of Conway Planning Department review and approval is required for all new building construction projects and additions exceeding 20% of the existing building area. The Planning Department review addresses Zoning Issues such as, use of property, setback requirements and parking and various other land use issues. Planning Department approval is required at final inspection prior to issuance of the certificate of occupancy. You can contact the Planning Department by calling 501-450-6105 for information relative to Planning Department plans submittal and review requirements.
Conway Fire Department
The City of Conway Fire Department performs a commercial plans review and field inspections on commercial building projects. Fire Department approval is required at final inspection and prior to issuance of the certificate of occupancy. You can contact Fire Marshal Randy Freeman or Assistant Fire Marshall Mike Rhoades at 501-450-6148 for any questions regarding the Fire Departmentís review and/or inspection procedures.
Conway Corp reviews the commercial building plans to insure appropriate utility services and connections. Conway Corp approval is required at final inspection prior to issuance of the certificate of occupancy. You can contact Mrs. Leslie Guffey at Conway Corporation (501-450-6053) for any questions regarding Conway Corporationís review and/or inspection procedures.
Conway Sanitation Department
The Conway Sanitation Department inspects the location and construction of the dumpster enclosures to insure safe and workable access. Conway Sanitation Department approval of the dumpster enclosure and location is required at final inspection prior to issuance of the certificate of occupancy. You can contact Mr. D.A. Campbell with the City of Conway Sanitation Department at 501-450-6155 for questions pertaining to dumpster locations, construction specifications and inspection procedures.
Conway Engineering and Street Department
The City of Conway Engineering and Street Department is responsible for the inspection and approval of grading and drainage as well as curb cuts and street improvements. The City of Conway Engineering and Street Department approval is required at final inspection and prior to issuance of the certificate of occupancy. You can contact City Engineer, Mr. Ronnie Hall at 501-450-6165 for information relative to Engineering review and/or inspections.
Conway Street Addresses
An application for a building permit starts with the applicant providing a correct street address. If you are unsure of the street address or if the project street address has not been established, contact Mr. Jason Lyon with the City Planning Department at 501.450.6107.
Conway Advertising and Promotions License (A&P License)
Hotel, motel, short term rental accommodations for sleeping, meeting or party rooms, or restaurants, cafes, cafeterias, delicatessens, drive-in restaurants, carry-out restaurants, concession stands, convenience stores, grocery store restaurants and similar businesses are required to obtain a license from the City of Conway Advertising and Promotion Commission. Contact Mrs. Barbara Money at 501-329-3776 to obtain such license. A copy of this license is required to be obtained and provided to the Office of Permits and Inspections prior to issuance of the building permit.
State of Arkansas Department of Health
All plumbing work for new plumbing systems requires an approval from the State of Arkansas Department of Health prior to issuance of the permit. Contact Mr. Sam Warren or Mr. Jerry Duncan with the Arkansas Department of Health at 501-661-2650.
Faulkner County Health Unit
Food service establishments require the approval of the Faulkner County Health Unit. Contact Tracie Wilson or Amanda Butler at 501-450-4946 at the Faulkner County Health Unit for approval of all food service establishments.
All persons performing electrical, mechanical, plumbing and gas work within the City of Conway are required to be properly licensed in accordance with the Tradesman Licensing Laws of the State of Arkansas.
